Angela HudsonExecutive Director
Angela joined the Society in 1999 with a background in financial management. Angela has extensive experience in accounting, tax and auditing and was the Financial Administrator for Island Catholic Schools prior to joining Saint Vincent de Paul. In 2016, Angela received her Chartered Membership in the Canadian Institute of Housing. Angela is a Director on the Board of British Columbia Non-Profit Housing Association and is assisting the Board of Hornby Island Elder Housing Society with development of affordable housing on Hornby Island.
Margaret ForbesDirector of Support Services
Margaret joined the Society in 2018 with a strong background in Support Services. She holds an Masters in Public Administration, BA in Human Services and an Early Childhood Education Diploma. Margaret has worked for the past few years as a Applied Community Based Researcher and Consultant working with non-profit agencies and local governments to provide services in project management, need and demand studies, program evaluations, capacity assessment, stakeholder engagement, community consultations and consensus building. Previously to this work, Margaret was the Release Case Manager for the Canadian Mental Health Association – Grey Bruce in Court Support Services. She has also spent time as a Program Facilitator for an Association for Community Living and as a Behavior Therapist working with various people in need.
Board of Directors
Brian retired from management consulting in 2014. Before working as a consultant he was Chief Financial Officer of the B.C. Emergency and Health Services Commission after serving in the same capacity at the Ministry of Finance. Before moving to Victoria Brian was Chief Financial Officer of Fincentric Corporation (formerly Prologic) after articling for PwC in Vancouver. Brian is an Honorary Life Member of the United Way of Greater Victoria and he is a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee. Brian believes in giving back to his community by helping people in need. Brian is an avid golfer.
John CreanVice Chair
John retired from his position as Director of Housing with the Victoria Cool Aid Society in 2016 after 26 years of service. During his time as Director of Housing, John was responsible for the planning and building of fifteen facilities in the Capital Region that were designed to shelter and house the most marginalized people in our community. In 2014 John was awarded The Denise LeBlond Memorial award for his outstanding dedication and vision that have furthered the cause of affordable housing in British Columbia.
John is married with three children and five grandchildren. He enjoys gardening, kayaking and spending time with his grandchildren.
Patrick has been with SSVP for over almost 5 years since moving from Ontario and serving on the Finance Committee. He brings 42 years of experience working first for various corporations and then managing his own private financial services practice.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Concordia and a Master’s degree from McGill as well as the CPA and CFP designations. Patrick enjoys golf during his free time; this is his first year sitting on the SSVP Board of Directors.
Tim joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in 2014 to put his faith into action, merging his belief in social justice with the society's mission to seek out and help the forgotten, the poor and the deprived. Currently working in the BC legislature and formerly a journalist, Tim currently serves as the Society’s secretary, bringing his eye for detail to governance and bylaw matters. He has been an active volunteer in labour and sports organizations in southern Vancouver Island since 2005. An avid marathoner, he lives in Victoria with his spouse, step-daughter and their two energetic dogs.
Mike O'GormanPresident North Island Particular Council
Mike was a French Immersion teacher and school administrator for 35 years prior to his retirement in 2005. He has lived in the Alberni Valley for nearly 50 years and has always been an active member of his parish and SSVP conference. Mike is currently serving as president of the N. Island Particular Council. Married with two adult children, he enjoys the outdoors, particularly mountaineering. Mike is especially passionate about having face-to-face personal encounters with the people we serve and building up his faith through the charitable works of the Society.
Jeff KucharskiPresident Victoria Particular Council
Before retiring from the public service in 2012, Jeff was an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Alberta Department of Energy but spent almost half his working career in Japan including with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. Jeff has been active in both the non-profit and charitable sectors over many years. He currently serves as President of the Particular Council of Southern Vancouver Island. Jeff has a doctorate degree in energy science from Kyoto University (Japan) and is currently an Associate Faculty member of Royal Roads University. Jeff enjoys photography, hiking, boating and writing and publishing articles.
Ken works full-time as manager of performance audit at the Office of the Auditor General where he has been employed for 23 years in value for money auditing. He is particularly interested in SVDP member recruitment and fundamental organizational renewal. Ken is both a member and volunteer of the Society, and is in his second term serving on the Board. Ken was born in B.C. He and his partner Kate have 3 children who have all attended island Catholic schools.
Kathy has been with the Society for over 30 years and is a member of Sacred Heart Conference. She has spent 2 years on the conference executive, and served on the Particular Council and Board for over 10 years in the past. Kathy has been both the President of the Victoria Particular Council and the President of the Board of Directors. She is currently a temporary board member. She is retired from her profession as a Registered Nurse and currently is on the ad hoc Constitution and Bylaws Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Archives Committee.
Stephanie has been with SVDP for over a decade and has been an active Conference member with St. Joseph the Worker Parish. She brings many years of experience working in both public and private sectors including five years in education, 14 years in social services, several years in manufacturing and in government. Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree from McGill and a Master’s degree from the University of Victoria. When not working, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters. This is her first year sitting on the SVDP Board of Directors.
