Home Visits- Mid to North Island

The Society has provided home visitation on Vancouver Island since 1916. By visiting people in their homes, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) aims to help men, women, and families to break their cycle of poverty and disadvantage. Regular visiting with attention to building relationships based on trust and friendship are what gives the SSVP its unique character.

Visits are made to individuals and families, to the sick at home or in hospitals and hospices, to residential homes and to offender institutes. Loneliness is growing, especially among the elderly, so members spend a lot of time visiting housebound people to prevent them from feeling isolated. Many appreciate a friendly face and enjoy a chat over a cup of tea, knowing that someone cares.
