COVID-19 Message from SSVPVI Society President
The mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is “to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy”. As part of this mission, we are called to come together as a family and to have personal contact with the poor. However, at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, coming together and having personal contact has taken on a new meaning for us. Instead of physical togetherness and contact, we are challenged now to reach out using other means to ensure we don’t lose touch with those we love and serve.
On behalf of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island, I would like to express how grateful we are for the support we receive from our fellow members, the community and our various friends and benefactors who support our mission. I would also like to thank you for your generous donations in 2019. Your contributions enabled our Society on the Island to provide emergency food and other supports to those most vulnerable in our communities.
With COVID-19, those who are in need now face even greater difficulties in finding food, shelter and meeting other daily needs. Despite the challenges of social distancing, the work of our Society must continue to help meet these needs, sometimes in new ways. The Society continues to serve the most vulnerable in our Vancouver Island communities with emergency services. For example, we are reaching out with friendly telephone calls, dropping off food hampers and food cards, continuing to run our food pantries and engaging in other activities that meet people’s needs – all while keeping our members, volunteers, staff, and those we serve safe.
Unfortunately, the current coronavirus situation has limited some of the services we can provide on Vancouver Island, but the needs of the poor remain. And since our churches are closed, people are finding it more difficult to provide direct support. For those of you who are able and wish to continue to support the works of our Society I would like you to know that there are several options available to you which outlined below:
- Complete the attached Personal Pre-Authorized Debit Plan Form and email it to email@example.com.
- Complete the attached Personal Pre-Authorized Credit Card Plan Form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Go to our website ssvpvancouverisland.ca and make a donation by clicking the red button in the top right hand corner.
- You can also volunteer to assist us to deliver much needed services where it is safe to do so. Please call 250.727.0007 for more information.
For any of the above options you can indicate the Parish you are with or the area of the Society that you would like to support. The preauthorized donations can be cancelled at any time by contacting 250-727-0007 or emailing email@example.com.
Thank you for taking the time today to reflect on the work of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and please stay safe.
Serving in hope,
President, Particular Council
Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island
